My Poet Dark and Slender / director / 2016
Performance based on Padraic O’Conaire’s short story M’Fhile Caol Dubh about a woman who has an affair with a supposed-revolutionary in 1916, shrouded in the murkiness of memory, where nothing is reliable or solid.
The piece looks at self-respect, trust and the construction and deconstruction of memory told through a disruptive dramaturgy of images and scenes.
A DIY aesthetic of cardboard masks inspired by Saul Steiner with illustrations by Paul Houlihan is coupled with film noir lighting, grotesque choreography by Conor Kennedy-Burke and found-texts from James Connolly, Joan Didion, Steven Spender and Beats International. Aindrias DeStaic composes an original score alongside remixes of John McCormack, The Clash and a sound recording of Dorothy Parker.
